Mr. Omar al-Bashir

President, Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir of Sudan and head of the National Congress Party came to power in 1989 and has subsequently been re-elected 3 times. In October 2005, President Bashirs Government successfully negotiated an end to the second sudanese civil war and sought to stabilise the political situation in Sudan. A programme of Economic reform began by introducing the Sudanese Dinar to replace the Sudanese Pound that had at that point lost 90% of its worth. A new Constitution was also put in place by President Bashirs Government, again seeking to stabilise the political situation in Sudan. President Bashir has achieved significant economic growth in Sudan, by effectively exploiting the natural wealth that Sudan is endowed with.
